Safe arrival top of the list for Police

December 24:   Minister for Police Michael Daley is reminding motorists that police are out in force across NSW and double demerits were in place until January 3 as part of Operation Safe Arrival.

Operation Safe Arrival began on Friday 24 December and will run until midnight on Friday 7 January.

Mr Daley said police would be targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, fatigue, pedestrian safety, as well as seatbelt and mobile phone offences.“Speed, alcohol and fatigue are the top three killers – they always have been. The real tragedy, quite frankly, is they are all avoidable,” he said.

“If you can’t drive safely for your own safety, drive safely for your family’s sake. You don’t want a police officer to knock on your family’s door in this holiday season telling them you won’t be making it.”

“Your family would prefer you to arrive late, than not at all.”

The preliminary road toll for 2010 stands at 415, down from 443 at the same time last year.
